About Us
CB4B believes that the survival of small businesses is crucial to the economic wellbeing of Cumbria.
We also know that the vast majority of business support services in the past have been designed to meet a generic need (often as decided by a politician or civil servant) witness Business Link for example who helped many businesses but failed to provide what the vast majority of Cumbrian businesses really need.
The people behind CB4B have scoured the country and beyond to find business services and solutions that meet the needs of Cumbrian businesses. We know that some generic services are very useful and wherever they are relevant and useful we will bring these solutions to you but in the main we will use local suppliers to provide business services that meet your individual needs.
We know that many Cumbrian businesses have different needs from the "typical" British business partly because of our geography and party because we know that "our voice" has had little impact on the powers that matter, witness the failure of Cumbria Vision and Carlisle Renaissance to name but two of many public sector bodies that we and you as tax payers have funded..
Cumbria Business for Business is different to the vast majority of support bodies. We are completely independent and private sector led. We can provide a full range of business support services that are geared to your specific needs, whatever your size or sector.
Viv Dodd, born in Barrow-in-Furness, has had over 30 years working with Cumbrian businesses in a comprehensive range of business services and support. He worked for Carlisle City Council heading the Economic Development and Planning departments for many years, helping set up Business Initiatives Carlisle, Carlisle Business Forum and then being one of the founders and first Chief Executive of Cumbria Chamber of Commerce.
He has organised and led countless business delegations to meet ministers, MPs, local politicians and civil servants locally, regionally and nationally and to met MEPs and European civil servants in Brussels. He was on the Government’s Task Force at the time of Foot and Mouth a member of the National Rural Affairs Forum and at varying times been on the boards of the North West Regional Assembly, the North West Rural Forum and Cumbria Connexions
Whilst at the City Council he was heavily involved with the development of the Lanes, the Sands, Tullie House, private sector housing improvement work, Carlisle Airport, the redevelopment of the market and the development of the city as a tourist destination and as a university city.
As well as being a director of Cumbria Business for Business he is also a Director of the Lakeland Initiative for Fitness and Excellence the Charity set up last year to run the swimming pool and fitness centre at Troutbeck Bridge Windermere and develop a leisure hub and Sports Village with Lakes School.
